Artistic Director

Chandra Maeder

After 15 years in Arizona, USA I became a resident of Langenbruck, Baselland in 2014.

After my music studies at the Music Academy Basel I played as a freelance horn player (natural horn and valve horn) in various Swiss and international ensembles (U.A. Il Giardino Armonico, Concerto Köln, Ottetto Classico Italiano with the conductors Giovanni Antonini, René Jacobs, Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan).

Further vocal training with Jane Thorner Mengedoht and David Thorner.

Since 1984 I have been leading choral projects, creative singing workshops and choral weeks in Europe, North America and Asia with great passion. Besides directing various choirs, I founded and directed the chamber choirs “Coro Do Poeta”, “Scapino Vocale” and “Dolce Far Canto”.

In my work with choirs, I want to translate the emotional range of the works into a colorful and transparent sound. In doing so, an experimental and lively rehearsal work is just as important to me as a relaxed and joyful atmosphere at the concerts.
I have also been practicing various meditation techniques for over 30 years. Thus I experience the connection of sound and silence as an essential element in music.

“I know and experience Chandra as a wide awake musician – choir director and singer and with a past as a very independent horn player – , who wants to revive the music of past times with great commitment and vision. Especially in the field of vocal Renaissance music he reaches very convincing and speaking results.”
Conrad Steinmann, professor at the Schola Cantorum in Basel

“Chandra has excelled as an instrumentalist and as a choral conductor. His great talent, contagious enthusiasm and open affection for all choir members has made wonderful results possible.”
Jonathan Rubin, lute player („Les Arts Florissants“)
